quick take a picture before it melts

Have you ever sat down to a devour a delectable dessert, licked the last sweet taste from the spoon, and groaned audibly at the prospect of now having to clean up after yourself? Groan no more! After a perusal of Bakerella's blog, I discovered the solution to this dire problem. Edible bowls. Can you imagine the grief this will save you? The suffering? The pruny, wrinkled dishwater hands?

I quickly decided I needed to make these chocolate bowls for myself.

1 pound tempered (white/semi-sweet/bittersweet)chocolate or candy coating
15 regular sized balloons or 25 water balloons (depending on what size bowl you desire)
Cooking spray
Wax or parchment paper
Cookie sheet

First, find yourself a bowl of melted, tempered chocolate. The chocolate should be around 92 degrees F for the best consistency.

Secondly, you will want to blow up the balloons. I filled the regular sized balloons about half full (any larger and they would just be too big). The water balloons are the perfect size for a single scoop of ice cream, but you will have to huff and puff to fill them with air, oh let me tell you.

You will want to wash off the balloons and let them dry before using them. When dried, lightly grease the bottom of the balloon. This will help in balloon removal.

Dip the balloons about half way into the chocolate. I found it is also helpful to put a blob of chocolate on the wax paper before setting the balloon on top. This provides a nice base for the chocolate bowl and helps the balloon stand up while the chocolate hardens.

You will want to refrigerate the chocolate covered balloons for 10 to 15 minutes until the chocolate fully hardens.

Next comes the fun part. When popping the balloon, I found it works best to poke a small hole near the top of the balloon. This allows the air to seep out slowly so the balloon does not explode and break apart the chocolate bowl you worked so hard to make. It is less dramatic, but your chocolate bowls will thank you in the long run.

Peel the balloon from the bowl carefully.

And now you can give yourself a big ol' pat on the back because you just successfully made yourself a chocolate bowl! The bowl can be filled with pudding, ice cream, or anything else that strikes your fancy.

Now, put up your feet, relax, and enjoy. If only there was edible silverware...
