Grapefruit Rum Cocktails
Creating and enjoying these cocktails was one of the few moments I spent all to myself these last few weeks. After collecting a stash of grapefruits from the store, I weighed back and forth on how to use them, wanting to find a recipe for them to shine. When a cloudy Sunday afternoon arrived, I started to piece the picture together. This cocktail was born, reminiscent of winter, with citrus tones and a kick to match the winter wind.
The ruby color, however, is what keeps me coming back.
Grapefruit Rum Cocktails are a fruity winter drink to enjoy when the weather is cold. A pink grapefruit is juiced, which is mixed with ginger ale for sweetness, rum for boldness, and triple sec to round out the citrus flavor. The cocktail comes together quickly, making it a good choice when 5 o'clock on Friday hits.

Grapefruit Rum Cocktails
Yields 2 servings
1 large pink grapefruit, juiced (about 1 cup)
3 ounces (90 ml) rum
8 ounces (240 ml) ginger ale
2 ounces (60 ml) triple sec
Gently mix together the grapefruit juice, rum, ginger ale, and triple sec. Divide evenly between two glasses. Serve immediately with a slice of grapefruit to garnish.
To rim the glasses with sugar, dip in the grapefruit juice and then into the sugar. Shake lightly to remove any large chunks.
